Behind My “Fine”
You asked me to tell you
how I really am
and we both know that can be
such a complicated thing.
The stylish illustration I can come up with
of the way my life is really going recently
is the notes app in my phone
equal corridor chronicles of my inmost demons
and endless to- do lists,
it’s a constant memorial of both
the effects I am
and all the effects I’m not doing.
I ’m alarmed that the people I love will leave me,
but, also, I need to water-soak my shops.
I ’m sad for my future kiddies about the state of the world we ’re living in,
and my auto could really use an oil painting change.
I wish someone would tell me that it’s okay to leave this world before,
and I ’m running out of milk.
You asked me to tell you
how I really am
and because I do n’t go around revealing
the notes app in my phone,
I settled,
of course,
for “ fine. ”
